FAQ
Billing and access
What is behind the wall?
The long features and the interviews, and about half of Deep Cuts. That is roughly a third of what we publish.
What stays free forever?
Every review, every live report, every news item, and the whole of The Rider. The Rider is the section about what things pay, and putting it behind a paywall would be a joke at our own expense that we are not prepared to make.
When am I billed?
On the day you join and then on the same date each month or each year, depending on which you picked. Annual members are reminded a week before it renews, because a silent annual renewal is a trick rather than a business model.
Can I switch between monthly and annual?
Yes, either direction, at any point. Switching to annual credits whatever is left of the month you have paid for. Switching to monthly takes effect when the year runs out rather than refunding the balance.
How do I cancel?
One click, from your account, without writing to anybody.
What happens to my access when I cancel?
It runs to the end of the period you have already paid for and then stops. You keep the free tier. We do not send a win-back sequence and we do not ask you to fill in a survey on the way out.
Can I gift a membership?
Yes, at either paid tier, and the recipient never sees what it cost. Write to members@merchtable.example and we will set it up by hand — we are seven people, and building a gifting flow is not the best use of the next fortnight.
Do you offer student or low-income rates?
We do not have a separate rate, we have something simpler. If the price is the reason you are not subscribing, write to us and we will turn it on. We do not ask why, we do not ask for proof, and we do not keep a list.
I paid and I still cannot read the piece.
Almost always it is a different email address than the one you joined with — people sign up on a phone and read on a laptop. Sign in with the address the receipt went to. If that does not fix it, write to members@merchtable.example and we will fix it at our end rather than talking you through yours.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within thirty days, for any reason including changing your mind, and you do not have to give one. After thirty days we will still consider it and will usually say yes.
